My name is Alessandro Melis. I am a lifelong resident of Iglesias, the medieval town that lies just inland from the rugged Sulcis coast. My grandfather worked in the lead and zinc mines of Masua during the middle of the twentieth century, and the history of these cliffs is part of my family stories. I created this portal to help visitors plan their trip to our coast and understand the significance of this industrial monument.
Porto Flavia is not a simple cave. It is an engineering achievement of 1924, designed to resolve a difficult mineral transport problem. The structure is carved directly into the limestone, hanging over the sea. I hope you find all teh practical details on this website helpful as you prepare for your journey to this unique location. Feel free to explore the guides, check the local bus timetables, and discover the best spots to stay whilst you visit our region.
